PROGRAMME OVERVIEW

The MSc Computer Science provides an intensive programme of study without any prior knowledge in computer science. As well as gaining a broad knowledge of the subject, students acquire practical skills and have the opportunity to investigate areas of current research more deeply.

STAGE ONE

Level 7 Extended Diploma in Computing Technologies (120 Credits)

COURSE OVERVIEW

The ATHE Level 7 Extended Diploma in Computing Technologies is a 120-credit Ofqual regulated qualification. It provides the core knowledge, understanding and skills to support learners planning to further their studies and careers in the field of computing technologies.

The qualification has been developed in collaboration with subject experts, colleges, higher education institutions and businesses to ensure the qualification meets their needs.

The different pathways allow learners to study a more general (non-specified) programme or specialise in particular fields of study as listed below. All pathways have the same credit value. The OTHM Level 7 Diploma in Risk Management qualification enables learners to progress into or within employment and/or to work toward a relevant master’s programme with advanced standing.

MSc Computing (60 Credits)

COURSE OVERVIEW

The MSc Computing final stage top-up programme is offered to students who already possess the Level 7 Diploma in Computing.

The top-up programme allows you to achieve a MSc Computing qualification in up to six months, so it is a fast track to new opportunities and enhanced career prospects.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

For entry onto the OTHM Level 7 Diploma in Computing qualification, learners must possess:

  • An honours degree in related subject or UK level 6 diploma or an equivalent overseas qualification
  • Mature learners with management experience (learners must check with the delivery centre)
  • Learners must be 21 years old or older at the beginning of the course

For MSc Programme:

  • Learners need to possess relevant OTHM level 7 diploma (120 credits) qualification
  • Learners must also have a minimum of 2 years’ work experience at graduate level, in either a managerial or professional capacity which may include voluntary work, placements, internships, project management etc.

English requirements: If a learner is not from a majority English-speaking country must provide evidence of English language competency.

DURATION AND DELIVERY

The qualification is designed to be delivered over one academic year for full-time study, but it is also flexible in its delivery in order to accommodate part-time and distance learning.

The qualification is delivered face-to-face, through lectures, tutorials, seminars, distance, online by approved centres only.

ASSESSMENT AND VERIFICATION

All units within this qualification are internally assessed by the centre and externally verified by OTHM. The qualifications are criterion referenced, based on the achievement of all the specified learning outcomes.

To achieve a ‘pass’ for a unit, learners must provide evidence to demonstrate that they have fulfilled all the learning outcomes and meet the standards specified by all assessment criteria. Judgement that the learners have successfully fulfilled the assessment criteria is made by the Assessor.

The Assessor should provide an audit trail showing how the judgement of the learners’ overall achievement has been arrived at.
